Inspiration Behind My Art
Connection to People and Nature
My passion for painting is deeply rooted in my love for both people and the natural world. I am continually inspired by the beauty that surrounds us in everyday life, and it is this appreciation that compels me to create art. From an early age, I recall being captivated by the simple yet profound night scenes visible from my bedroom window. Those moments filled me with a sense of wonder that I longed to express through my artwork.
Camping in the mountains, from the breathtaking landscapes of Glacier National Park to the awe-inspiring vistas of Mesa Verde, has left a lasting impression on me. These experiences have deepened my sense of awe and inspired me to capture the majesty of nature in my paintings.
Everyday Moments and Light
Even the smallest moments, such as watching our two-year-old daughter try to catch dust particles shimmering in the sunlight streaming through the bay window of our Victorian home, spark my creativity. These fleeting effects of light and shadow are central to my artistic vision. My aim is to better capture these unique effects of light on my subjects, drawing from life studies and careful observation of the interplay between light and shadow. I invite you to join me on this creative journey as I continue to explore and share the beauty I find in the world around us.
